Fall Meeting Wrap-Up

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011 by admin

Thanks to everyone who helped plan and execute the Fall Utah Alliance Meeting in Box Elder County. For those of you who couldn’t attend, you missed a great meeting. The Bear River Migratory Bird Refuge Center is absolutely fabulous.

This picture doesn’t do it justice. The resources that are available in the center are really great. You need to take your family there to visit the center and then drive on the Wildlife grounds to see the birds. Call before you come so you can plan a time where you will see more birds - obviously in the spring and fall when they are flying through. However, they say that December is a great time to view the Bald Eagle.

Not only did you miss out on the great scenic and eco-tourism aspect of the meeting, you missed out on some pretty fabulous presentations. Mayor Fife welcomed us and gave us a brief overview of what’s been going on up here. Natalie Gochnor gave a great presentation on the current state of the Utah economy. And there was a great panel discussion on the siting of Procter & Gamble’s facility here.

For copies of our meeting presentations, go to our meeting resources section here. Some of the presentations didn’t load due to their size. I’ll be trying to correct that and get the rest of presentations online this week.

Mark your calendars for Tuesday, January 10, 2012 for the next Alliance Meeting. We will be meeting in St. George - again the day before the What’s Up Down South meeting. See you then!

What’s New in Brigham City

Tuesday, September 13th, 2011 by admin

The registration site is up for our upcoming Fall meeting. We will be in Box Elder County on October 4th. To get you excited about coming up north, I thought we could do some blog posts on activities in Box Elder - in case you don’t get a chance to see everything while you are there.

A couple of months ago, I found this cool website where they have a webcam on the construction site of the new Brigham City Temple. The author of the blog has also been taking pictures of the construction on at least a weekly basis. It’s been kind of fun to see the Temple coming out of the ground. The best part is that you don’t have to go mucking around in the dirt to actually be on the construction site.

Bangerter’s UP House Continues to Spark Interest

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 by admin

.Bangerter Up HouseOn my daily browse of the The New York Times, I came across this article that talks about the “UP” house built by Bangerter Homes in Herriman. The article discusses how Bangerter Homes was able to get approval to build the home from Disney Studios, who are usually pretty “anti reproduction” of any of their copywrited materials.

I guess the moral to the story is, don’t be afraid to ask. You just might get what you want.

Thanks to Everyone for Summer Meeting

Wednesday, July 27th, 2011 by admin

Mayor Clyde
A great big thank you to everyone who put together a wonderful Summer meeting in Springville. The presentations were relevant and interesting, the food was fabulous and the extra activities were delightful - anyway the art museum was. I can’t really speak to the golf outing, but I haven’t heard any complaints rumbling through the Utah ED world.

One of the things I love about Springville is the art that is literally on the streets. Look at the group of kids I found hopping around the city.

I took advantage of the opportunity to tour the Springville Art Museum. They had just hung all the quilts for the quilt show that started the next day. Several women were walking around judging the beautiful handwork. I really could have spent several hours just looking at the quilts.

But then we were honored to have Dr. Vern Swanson give us a personal tour of some of the artwork. He spent most of his time focusing on the beautiful and unique Russian art currently in the museum. I loved his enthusiasm and his knowlegde of European and Russian art. This is just a sampling of the work found there.

If you haven’t been to one of the Alliance meetings this year, you are missing out. Mark your calendar today for October 4th where we will be meeting in Box Elder County at their new Bird Refuge. I’ve seen an outline of the program and I promise it will be worth your time to come.

“UP”date on the UP House

Wednesday, July 13th, 2011 by admin

If you are interested in taking your family to see a screening of “UP” across the street from the real UP house in Herriman, here are the details.
The movie is on Saturday, July 16.

Real Life “UP” House in Herriman

Friday, July 8th, 2011 by admin

UP House
The cute little cottage that starred Disney/Pixar’s UP is being built in Herriman as part of Salt Lake County’s 2011 Parade of Homes. The replica is being built by Bangerter Homes and is complete with pastel colors on the outside, handprints on the mailbox, and handpainted murals on the inside. Read more about this fun house here.

Momentum Development will be hosting an “Up” event at dusk on July 16, featuring a screening of the movie in the park across the street from the home, at 13215 S. 5390 West. There will be prizes, including Parade of Homes tickets. Visitors must have Parade tickets to see the inside of the home. The Parade runs July 29 through Aug. 14. For tickets and more information.

Springville’s Quilt Show

Thursday, June 30th, 2011 by admin

For the past 38 years, Sprinville has hosted a quilt show. Unfortunately for us, the show begins just days after our meeting on July 14th. The show is scheduled for July 16 - August 31, 2011 and will be held at the Springville Art Museum. If you’ve never been to a quilt show, you are in for a treat. These quilts are truly works of art.

Co-Sponsored by the Utah Valley Quilt Guild and Corn Wagon Quilt Company, this exhibition showcases the talent and artistry of quilters throughout Utah.

The Annual Springville Museum of Art Quilt Show is a juried competition. Quilts are screened by a panel of experts before they are displayed in the show. After the panel qualifies the quilts, they will be displayed and the quilts will be judged for ribbons/awards by qualified judges.

Quality in workmanship, design, color, originality, and general appeal will be the principle criteria applied by the selection committee for admission to the show. The same criteria will also be used by the judges. There will be awards for “Best of Show”, “Education Director’s Award”, “Best Hand Quilting,” as well as many other awards.

Put this event on your calendar and take another trip to Springville to see the spectacular array of quilts designed and produced by some pretty talented women.
