There is something for everyone at the second annual Utah Renewable Energy Conference, hosted by the Utah Solar Energy Association (UtSEA) and the Utah Technology Council (UTC) to be held Tuesday, April 19 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Salt Palace Convention Center in downtown Salt Lake.

Goal Zero, a conference title sponsor, is giving away 17 portable solar power systems that will charge small electronic devices for one to two hours. They will give away seven of these systems during the day and raffle off 10 additional systems to attendees in the evening from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The two teachers that have the most students in attendance at the conference receive a free H2 remote control racecar. Conference attendees can play with the hydrogen fuel celled cars at the event before they are given away.

“We want conference attendees to be excited about saving energy,” said Levi Belnap, executive director of UtSEA. “The prizes given away by various sponsors show the attendees how practical it is to switch to a more energy efficient lifestyle.”

Garbett Homes, a Utah homebuilder with developments in the United States and Mexico, will exhibit their unique renewable energy technology that is part of the Solaris Collection. They built the homes so that a first-time homebuyer can afford a solar-powered, contemporary-style home.

The Solaris Collection in Daybreak comes in three different home models to fit the needs of families looking to conserve energy. A Garbett Home equipped with the renewable energy technology uses 30%-40% less energythan a standard home; this saves the homeowners hundreds of dollars each year.

The finalized conference agenda features high-profile speakers and a time allocated specifically for families to take part in theevent. Utah Governor Gary Herbert and keynote Wendolyn Holland of the U.S. Department of Energy will speak at 9:00 a.m. After the keynote, there will be a legal tract with CLE credtis from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and general breakout sessions from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The conference will be open to the public from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
